A cable ladder system comprises of a range of straight lengths as well as different shaped fittings designed to facilitate changing cabling directions or levels easily, without the need to modify any components. Ladders are generally considered to be the strongest products that are available to support cables, offering high load capabilities over long spans, and therefore are often specified to be installed on sites where the need to distribute high volumes of cables safely, reliably and quickly is of paramount importance to the project managers.

The EzyStrut range of cable ladder systems is designed for a variety of applications from light industrial, civil, heavy mining through to oil and gas installations with superior load ratings, and easily manoeuvred components with strong hold down units to provide a complete, easy to install solution.

Manufactured in three levels of performance – light (NEMA 1), medium (NEMA 2) and heavy duty (NEMA 3 and NEMA 4/4E4) – the range of mild/galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) cable ladders are carefully constructed using precision rollformed steel, extruded aluminium, or pultruded FRP longitudinal side rails together with rungs that on steel and aluminium are slotted to assist with tying down cables. All are tested in accordance with NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) and IEC standards. Load rating and deflection guides are available on our product pages. The load ratings themselves are calculated as a load (Kg) per metre over specific spans. Learn more about Loads over Spans.

During the manufacturing process, each side rail is pre-punched with splice fixing holes to provide easy on site installation and connection to other lengths using splice plates. Earth strap connection holes are also punched in metal ladders to help keep them safely earthed.

The components are then assembled in purpose built manufacturing jigs where each rung is carefully welded to the side rail section.

EzyStrut's cable ladder lengths are also complemented by a range of fittings, including ladder bends, tees, crosses, internal and external risers in multiple radiuses, and reducers for multiple cabling width changes. Fittings for steel and aluminium ladders are normally self-splicing. Covers for straight lengths and fittings are also manufactured, as well as accessories such as splices, divider strips, cover clamps and hold down brackets for all sizes. Installing the required fittings to change your cabling direction or level, or connecting straight lengths together using splice plates is easy, as David demonstrates in this video:

Check out the Cable Ladder Selection Guide for more information about the load capabilities and other features of individual sizes.

Manufacturing Standards

Cable Ladders are manufactured to meet specific NEMA standards:

The EzyStrut NEMA 1 range is manufactured to the NEMA 12A Standard: It can support a rated load of 74kg/m over a 3.7m span or a load of 112kg/m over a 3m span. The side rail height for NEMA 1 in steel is 65mm, or 90mm in aluminium.

The EzyStrut NEMA 2 range is manufactured to conform with the NEMA 16A Standard, meaning that it can support 74kg/m over a 4.9m span, or 50kg/m over a 6m span. The side rail height for NEMA 2 in steel is 93mm, 100mm in aluminium, or 102mm in FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic).

The EzyStrut NEMA 3 range is manufactured to conform with the NEMA 20B Standard hence being able to support 111kg/m over a 6m span, or 209kg/m over a 4m span. The side rail height for NEMA 3 is 130mm in steel or 120mm in aluminium.

Finally, EzyStrut’s NEMA 4 range can support 149kg/m over a 6m span, or 256kg/m over a 4m span. The side rail height for NEMA 20C is 150mm in steel and 155mm in aluminium. A special variant of the NEMA 4 in steel is the N4 E4, which exceeds the load requirements of the N20C specification, and depending on its span can support up to 347kg/m.
